Who is UPRAA
UPRAA is a non-profit corporation operated exclusively for educational and charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, or the corresponding section of any future Federal tax code. UPRAA’s goal is to build an organization in which its members converge to foster common interests; conduct educational and networking programs for the benefit of its membership and the Hispanic community at large; support charitable, scholarship, and educational programs and serve as mentors to Hispanic youth; develop an appreciation and interest in the Hispanic culture; stimulate direct and active participation of the University of Puerto Rico Alumni and Friends community in cultural, civic, and charitable activities within and outside the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area; and assist and welcome UPR Alumni and Friends who have recently arrived to the Washington, D.C. area in the adaptation process to their new environment.
UPRAA unifies University of Puerto Rico Alumni and Friends Abroad to provide opportunities for educational development, cultural growth, and community service.
As “the Alumni Organization of Choice” and as the linkage between the University of Puerto Rico and its family of alumni across the globe, and commitment to the university’s mission of life learning, engagement, and community service.
UPRAA supports scholarship programs in support of outstanding students who have demonstrated academic merit, commitment to public service and financial need as well as selected charitable programs. To manage our Scholarship Program, we have established a Committee which recommends to the Board of Directors the procedures for selection and award of scholarships based on the Board of Directors guidelines and Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3) regulations.
UPRAA conducts its cultural programs as independent activities or in conjunction with educational, civic, or charity events. These programs are designed to celebrate special events, such as Hispanic Heritage Month. UPRAA’s cultural programs are also targeted as fund raising activities to support UPRAA’s charity goals.
UPRAA conducts networking activities as membership drives to help connect individuals who have relocated to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Our networking activities enable attendees to exchange ideas and resolve individual situations that may be encountered by those relocating to the Continental U.S. UPRAA’s networking activities and programs are also open to the general public.

The “UPRAA Women’s Series” is a set of activities for women members of UPRAA designed as an added incentive to their membership. The “Series” brings UPRAA women together through professional development activities to include a breakfast and luncheon series with inspiring women leaders and a mentoring circle for rising and established women leaders within the membership. Our mission is to establish a network in which UPRAA Women and friends located in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area converge to foster common interests and empower each other.
