To Our Loyal Members, Donors, Friends, and Supporters,
This year, UPRAA is celebrating its 15th anniversary. During the past 15 years, our organization has awarded over $180,000 in scholarships to students who have demonstrated superior academic performance and financial need. We have offered many STEM Scholarships thanks to generous grants from the Ford Motor Fund, Dominion, and in 2018, we established an additional Scholarship program in support of ROTC students thanks to a generous donation from The CORVUS Group.
In light of this progress, we have set our sights on the challenges of the next 15 years and beyond. We want to transform UPRAA to make it even more effective, relevant, and impactful to ensure its continuing vitality and value. Our youth in Puerto Rico are adapting to new economic realities, heightened competition, and an educational system that is severely underfunded and facing previously unimaginable pressures. We ask that you join us in making the coming years as productive and meaningful as the last 15 have been. This is a time for us to step up to the challenges we face going forward and grow stronger in our commitment to empowering Hispanic professionals and low-income students to achieve their full academic, economic and social potential.
This year, we start a new chapter in the growth of the organization as we build on our successes. We appreciate the support received throughout 2018 and ask you to join in our effort to make a difference in the lives of our youth in the upcoming year.
We are poised and ready to transform UPRAA, and we cannot do it without you.
Jose O. Torres
President, Association of University of Puerto Rico Alumni and Friends Abroad
