Melissa currently works as an Army Officer Staff officer with the Office of the Chief of Staff of the Army’s Pentagon Executive Communication Control.

Melissa Rodriguez Torres, better known by “Rod” is a proud “jibarita” coming from a humble beginnings place called Barriada Lluberas in Yauco, Puerto Rico.  She currently works as an Army Staff Officer with the Office of the Chief of Staff of the Army’s Pentagon Executive Communication Control.  She coordinates, attends and provides executive coverage for the Army Top Four senior leaders and manages the Total Army Human Resources portfolios.

Rod graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico (PCUPR), Ponce, as Registered Nurse and received her military officer commission through the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), Army Reserve Officers Training Corp (ROTC) program, Ponce.  She completed her Master’s Degrees in Human Resources and Leadership, University of Maryland, University College, Maryland.

She joined the Army Nurse Corps and the Adjutant Generals Corp and held several leadership positions within her 24 years of service including Platoon Leader, Company Commander, Executive Officer, Postal and Logistics Officer state side and Korea. She also completed 15 months combat deployment in Afghanistan and conducted Humanitarian missions in Honduras.

Lieutenant Colonel Rodriguez, named the 2007 Department of the Army Latina Soldier of the Year, served in the Army’s Equal Opportunity Office and managed associated programs Army Wide.  She volunteers at Veterans Hospitals and Habitat for Humanity projects.  She loves to inspire and empower people to find their potential, especially Hispanics, to turn their dreams into achievements.  She is very proud and passionate of her humble beginnings and uses her own experience to motivate all ages to reach for the skies with no limitation and to better themselves thru education and serving the community.  She is married to her sweet heart Roberto who is also another example of inspiration and empowerment.  He is also a PCUPR and UPR graduate and is currently working at Environment and Protection Agency (EPA) in Washington DC.
