Víctor R. Martínez

With experience in government, non-profit sector, and academia, Victor has been working with the Puerto Rican community living stateside for the past 8 years.

He has worked with devotion to highlight the attributes and contributions of our community, through the creation of educational content, a docu-series and publishing academic articles while working at the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at CUNY Hunter College. In 2017, he co-founded the organization Diaspora X Puerto Rico, that seeks to ensure the participation, activism, self-sufficiency and empowerment of the Puerto Rican community stateside. This organization worked extensively with Puerto Rican evacuees in New York State and other parts of the country. During that time, Victor was member of the New York Stands with Puerto Rico Rebuilding and Reconstructing Committee, which was established by Governor Andrew Cuomo. Victor is from Naguabo, Puerto Rico and has a B.A. in Public Communication and Political Science from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. He has a M.A. in Economic Development at the Milano School for International Affairs and graduate studies in Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies at the CUNY Graduate Center. Victor has taught college-level courses at the State University of New York. He currently works at the Office of the NYC Comptroller, Scott Stringer. In January 2021, he will start working with Congressman-elect Ritchie Torres as Deputy District Director.
